Chapter 189 Take Responsibility
The man’s dark eyes were fixed on Olivia’s pale face. “What’s wrong with you? Why do you look so pale?”
His low voice snapped Olivia back to her senses. Instinctively, she turned her head away, responding, “I’m fine.”
Fine!
Nathan’s frown deepened. Her complexion was clearly much paler than it had been in the morning. No matter how he looked at it, she didn’t seem fine at all.
“Are you feeling unwell?” he asked tentatively.
“No.” Her tone remained nonchalant.
A flicker of displeasure surfaced in Nathan’s slightly narrowed dark eyes.
Gritting her teeth against the pain, Olivia clenched her fists tightly as she slowly rose to her feet.
She looked composed, and aside from her pallor, there didn’t seem to be anything wrong with her.
“Mommy, did I hurt you when I bumped into you?” asked Liam softly.
Olivia shook her head gently, a hint of a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. “No. I just didn’t get a good night’s sleep.”
She ran her fingers through the boy’s hair, then lifted her gaze to Nathan. Her smile faded, and she frowned with displeasure. “Why didn’t you let me know before bringing Liam along?”
Nathan had already anticipated her reaction upon seeing Liam. Unruffled, he retorted, “If I had given you a heads–up, would you have agreed?”
Olivia fell silent.
Indeed, I wouldn’t have agreed.
This trip was fraught with complications, and it might jeopardize Liam’s safety.
Plus, Emily was also here. She would give Liam a hard time if she found out he came, too.
With that in mind, Olivia couldn’t contain her annoyance. She scoffed coldly, “How could you possibly have time to accompany Liam when you’re so busy? Also, there are so many people here. You might not be worried about him, but I am!”
She paused, narrowing her eyes as she glared at Nathan. “If anything happens to him, can you bear the responsibility?”
Nathan understood her sentiment, yet her tone made him uncomfortable.
Liam is my son, too! Why wouldn’t I be worried?
He stared back at her coldly, his thin lips parting slightly. “Since I brought him along, of course I’ll make sure he’s safe! Do you think I can’t even protect a child?”

What truly upset her was that he had brought Liam along without her consent.
It felt as though someone had touched something she held dear, leaving her with an unsettling feeling in
her heart.
Sensing the tension in the atmosphere, Liam reached out to hold Olivia’s hand, gently swaying it as he said cautiously, “Mommy, it was my decision to tag along. Please, don’t be mad at Daddy.”
Olivia’s anger dissipated as she looked at the boy’s piteous demeanor. With a warm smile, she said, “Mommy’s not mad.”
To be more specific, I’m just too tired to stay mad.
Her wound throbbed in pain, and it was exhausting enough trying to hide it. She simply didn’t have the strength left to argue with Nathan.
“Do you have anything else left to say, Mr. Carter?” she asked. “If not, I need to rest.” Holding Liam’s hand, she continued, “Liam will stay with me.”
Nathan pursed his thin lips wordlessly, gazing at her.
His abyss–like eyes bore into her, as if trying to see right through her.
Olivia lowered her head, avoiding his gaze, and coldly urged, “Please leave, Mr. Carter.”
Nathan suddenly strode toward her and reached out to touch her forehead.
“What are you doing?” Taken aback, Olivia panicked and took two steps back.
“Are you sick?” asked Nathan.
Olivia paused for a moment, then quickly regained her composure and shook her head. “No.”
However, Nathan didn’t believe it. Her face was so pale. Moreover, when he got close, he detected a faint scent of blood.
