Emily’s words might have sounded like she was complaining about her own son, but in reality, her tone was tinged with pride.
The group of wealthy ladies broke into laughter.
“Isn’t that great? Mr. Carter is truly outstanding to have managed Carter Group so well. You’re really fortunate, Mr. Carter.”
As the flatter continued, Emily felt her ego inflated beneath the mask of feigned humility.
Nathan was indeed her pride.
Precisely for this reason, she refused to allow the stain of Olivia’s presence in her son’s life.
She couldn’t help but glance around the room, curious to see if Olivia had arrived.
If she dares to show up, I’ll make sure she’s utterly humiliated!
However, after scanning the room and finding no sign of Olivia, she quietly breathed a sigh of relief. It seems that she doesn’t have the nerve to show up.
When Emily retracted her gaze, she noticed Emma engaging in conversation with the guests. She then suggested, “Emily, why don’t you find Nate? Let him introduce you to the guests.”
Emma understood Emily’s intentions, feeling a surge of joy in her heart. Yet, she maintained a reserved expression. “Excuse me, everyone, I’ve to go find Nate now.”
Everyone there was shrewd and could easily read Emily’s intentions. Thus, they cheerfully encouraged her to go.
After she left, someone sighed and remarked, “If the Carter family and the Patel family were to unite through marriage, they’d be an unstoppable force. Their lead over us would be beyond our reach.”
Upon hearing this, Emily couldn’t help but chuckle, covering her mouth as she did. She shot the speaker a playful glare. “Look at you, always exaggerating.”
The others chuckled along. “She’s just envious of you. Your son is so outstanding, and his future wife is equally impressive.”
“Really?” Emily turned her head to watch Emma move to her son’s side, her face breaking into an approving smile.
The daughter–in–law she had set her eyes on was naturally exceptional.
Emma walked up to Nathan’s side, softly calling out, “Nate.”
Nathan turned his head, giving her a casual glance before asking, “Is there something you need?”
Although his demeanor was rather aloof, Emma was well accustomed to it. With a smile gracing her face, she said, “Mrs. Carter asked me to join you in offering toasts to the guests.”
She tucked away a stray lock of hair behind her ear, then continued, “Tonight, all the guests are important clients of our two families…”
She intentionally left her sentence unfinished, but the message implied was clear. She was cautioning Nathan not to reject her, or else it would be seen as a slight to their guests.
Nathan took a sip of his wine, not uttering a word.
The atmosphere suddenly turned chilly, and Emma bit her lip, asking, “I heard that Mr. Blair of Lantis Group has come over from its headquarters abroad, is that true?”
Nathan nonchalantly responded with an affirmative hum.
Although the response was still quite detached, it was still one at the very least. This made Emma feel a little happy inside.
Lantis Group was a renowned corporation in Europe, and it also held a significant reputation on the international stage.

After speaking, he swiftly headed toward the restroom before Emma could react.
Frozen in spot, Emma could only keep her mouth shut, scowling.
