After throwing Olivia a sidelong glance, Nathan asked flatly, “Mr. Bovril, were you and Ms. Monroe discussing business just
now?”
When he had approached earlier, he seemed to have heard the word “system” being mentioned.
“Yes. Sphaera Group and Horizon Ventures are going to collaborate on a system, and Ms. Monroe just briefed me about it,” Eric admitted, showing no attempt to conceal it.
Nathan subtly nodded, feigning indifference as he glanced at Olivia.
He knew that Horizon Ventures was planning to collaborate with Sphaera Group; he just didn’t expect her to start discussing work at the cocktail party.
Is she just a workaholic or someone who doesn’t know better?
Olivia could feel his gaze on her, but she chose to ignore it.
“As Emily and Emma were there, she certainly didn’t want to invite any trouble because of him.
The negotiations with Sphaera Group were nearly concluded. So, she said, “Mr. Bovril, let’s discuss the details later. Please proceed with your conversation with Mr. Carter. I’ll take my leave now.”
After speaking, she gave a smile and nodded toward Eric and Sarah before turning to leave.
“Ms. Monroe, there’s no need to leave hastily.”
When Emily saw her about to leave, a cold glint flashed in her eyes. She walked over and blocked Olivia’s path.
Olivia’s delicate eyebrows knitted together as she looked up, her gaze icy as it landed on the woman before her. A mocking smile tugged at the corners of her mouth. “Is there something I can do for you, Mrs. Carter?” she asked.
Previously, Emily couldn’t stand the sight of her. Thus, she wasn’t going to allow Olivia to slip through her hands unscathed.
Based on her understanding of Emily, Olivia knew nothing good was going to come out of it.
“Ms. Monroe, you’re a client of Carter Group after all. I suppose you don’t know anyone here, do you? If you don’t mind, I can introduce you to them.”
Emily wore a smile on her face, her words were not as harsh as they used to be.
When someone is being kind for no good reason, they must have an ulterior motive.
flickered as she instinctively took a step back. A polite smile tugged at the corner of her lips as she declined, “There’s no need to trouble yourself, Mrs. Carter.”
“It’s no trouble at all.” Emily still wore a warm and friendly smile. “After all, I did watch you grow up.”
Upon hearing these words, Olivia found it quite amusing.
Rather than saying she watched me grow up, it is more accurate to say she watched me mature with a sense of resentment.
If it weren’t for the law, Olivia was convinced that Emily would have killed her to avenge her husband.
Upon hearing Emily’s words, Emma furrowed her brows deeply, a look of confusion plastered on her face. “Mrs. Carter, what is this about?” she questioned.
Doesn’t Mrs. Carter despise Olivia? Why would she suddenly say something like that?
Emily waved her hand, signaling Emma not to speak.
She then continued to speak to Olivia. “Seeing how well you’re doing now, I’m quite proud.”
As she spoke, she reached out to grasp Olivia’s hand. However, the latter deftly avoided her advance.

Unfazed, Emily covered her mouth and chuckled, saying, “We haven’t seen each other for many years; it’s only natural we feel a bit estranged. I was just thinking that having returned to the country and managing a company isn’t easy, so I just want to help you meet more people. Having a wider network is always a good thing.”
The words she spoke sounded incredibly sincere to anyone who heard them.
However, to Olivia, it felt unsettling.
No one understood the extent of Emily’s hatred for her better than she did.
As a result, it wasn’t surprising for Emily to be up to something nefarious when she said such things.
Not only did Olivia start to become wary, but even Nathan noticed his mother was up to no good.
He glanced at the silent Olivia, then said in a cold voice, “Mom, there are still many guests that need attending to. Ms. Monroe and Mr. Bovril probably haven’t finished their discussion, so you shouldn’t interfere.”
