Nathan grabbed Olivia’s hand. His gaze fell on her face, searching for signs of the truth, but to no avail.
After completing the necessary procedures, they left the hospital. Olivia was lost in thought and somewhat distracted as they made their way to the parking lot. A black car suddenly accelerated towards them from the corner… It happened too quickly, and she was caught off guard. She only heard the panicked cries of others.
“Mommy!”
“Ms. Olivia, watch out…”
Olivia snapped back to reality as someone pulled her arm. A warm hand touched her skin, and a strong force pulled her into a secure embrace. As she breathed, she smelled a familiar yet strange fragrance that distinctly belonged to Nathan…
Her gaze flickered, and she suddenly recalled a moment from when she was ten years old! Back then, she was walking along the road and nearly got hit by a car. Nathan had rushed over and held her tightly in his arms to protect her. He had gotten injured, and his head bled from the impact, but she remained unharmed!
Nathan Carter! If he genuinely harbors such hatred towards me, why did he sacrifice himself to save me back then? And why did he turn so cold–hearted later on and drive me away? Olivia couldn’t understand the man’s thoughts. When she came to her senses, she looked up to see Nathan’s furious gaze. “What’s wrong with you? Why are you being so careless?” He spoke in a familiar yet cold voice.
Her sentimental emotions instantly vanished. She chuckled self–deprecatingly and thought to herself. Perhaps he wants me to suffer a worse death. Realizing this, she left his embrace without a second thought and thanked him coldly and indifferently. Nathan furrowed his brows. After all these years, this woman is as clueless
as ever!
Liam rushed forward and hugged Olivia’s legs. He asked worriedly, “Mommy, are you okay?” The little one was clearly shaken by what had happened. “I’m alright. I’m sorry for scaring you.” Olivia held the child in her arms and soothed him gently. Liam nodded, his chubby cheeks quivering. He even put in a good word for Nathan. “Daddy is really amazing. He’s so quick on his feet.” Olivia ignored him and carried the child to the car in a calm and collected manner without hesitation.
They entered the car and headed towards the DNA testing center. During the journey, Nathan received a call from Emily. “Nathan, why haven’t you returned yet?” Her tone, was accusatory, and she didn’t show any concern for the child. Nathan realized this, and his gaze darkened. “What do you think?”
“Why are you still there? You don’t even know if the child is yours. What a waste of time! Come back immediately!” Emily’s sharp voice echoed through the phone. “I’m telling you, Olivia Monroe is up to no good. I suspect this is all a deliberate scheme the mother and son concocted…”
“I’ll return once the child’s DNA is confirmed,” Nathan interjected coldly. Upon hearing this, Emily said, “Why… don’t you give up?! In that case, I’ll come too! I want to meet that woman in case she tries anything!”
“No need. I can handle it on my own.” Nathan refused without hesitation. He understood how his mother felt about Olivia and wanted to avoid complications. Emily persisted. “No! I won’t acknowledge that child without seeing the paternity test results myself!”
Nathan furrowed his brow. He pondered momentarily and said icily, “You can go to the DNA testing center.” She can come and apologize to Liam for her behavior! “Alright, I’ll head there immediately!”
