Chapter 218 Heart Racing
After the call ended, Nathan’s path back to his room was halted as his eyes caught Olivia by the bar, filling her glass with
water.
He found himself observing her in silence.
The volume of Emily’s voice during their call must have carried, casting a frosty layer over Olivia’s expression.
Olivia, for her part, hadn’t expected to overhear Nathan’s phone call
The intensity in Emily’s voice made it impossible not to catch some of the harsher comments.
Having spent years with the Carter family, Olivia believed she had paid her dues and owed them nothing.
Yet, Emily’s longstanding grudge against her remained unchanged, sparking a flare of annoyance within Olivia.
After taking a sip of her water, she addressed Nathan with a cool detachment, “Mr. Carter, if my presence bothers you, feel free to leave. Liam won’t miss a couple of days with you.”
Nathan, holding his phone, replied with a calmness that contrasted sharply with Olivia’s icy tone. “I’ve made a promise to him, and I intend to keep it.”
“Suit yourself then,” Olivia retorted, her voice carrying a mix of indifference and slight irritation.
Whether he stays or not has got nothing to do with me anyway!
Nathan watched her walk away, a faint smile touching his lips as he lingered a moment longer before rejoining Liam.
By nine o’clock that evening, Liam, exhausted from the day’s excitement, was fast asleep.
Nathan remained in the living room, seemingly in no hurry to leave. When Olivia emerged in her pajamas, surprised to find. Nathan still there, her annoyance was palpable. “You’re still here?” she asked, her voice sharp.
Nathan’s gaze met hers gently, “Do you need help with your bandages?” he offered.
Olivia quickly refused, “No, thank you,”
The thought of another awkward, close moment with him was the last thing Olivia wanted. It was so uncomfortable that she wished she could just vanish on the spot.
Nathan held her gaze for a brief second before getting up. All right, I’m heading out now,” he announced, his departure marked by the confident strides of his long legs.
Bang!
The sound of the door shutting left Olivia sighing, a bittersweet smile on her face: It seemed the more she tried to keep distance between them, the more intertwined their lives became.
Memories of their joyful day at the amusement park with Liam brought an unexpected tightness to her chest, stirring a mix of emotions she wasn’t prepared to confront.
With a firm press of her lips, she decided to stop dwelling on these thoughts, choosing to let the future unfold without her
interference.
The next morning arrived with Nathan’s promised visit.
“Daddy Liam’s voice echoed as he tlung the door open, his energy and bright smile a clear indication of a good night’s sleep. His eyes shone with excitement, reminiscent of the deepest, darkest grapes.

As Nathan stepped inside, Olivia appeared from another room, the surprise on both their faces fleeting before Olivia quickly regained her poise. “Let’s go.” she stated, ready to start the day
True to his word, Nathan took them to the stable, where Liam, now dressed in his riding gear, mirrored Nathan’s appearance.
The sight of Nathan in those thigh–high boots, which accentuated the lean lines of his legs, caught Olivia off guard, her admiration for him surfacing unexpectedly
It took her a moment to snap out of her reverie, her heart racing as she averted her gaze.
