Chapter 225 Life In Constant Danger
Olivia recalled how he had sought medical assistance when she met Harry previously.
Was that because of his angina?
Ethan looked at her and hesitated. He almost spilled the beans and told her everything.
Before he could even speak, Nathan regained consciousness.
“Ethan!” His deep voice resonated in the quiet room.
Ethan shuddered, quickly shutting his mouth. At the same time, he felt a wave of relief that he hadn’t said anything. Otherwise, Nathan would certainly not have let him off the hook.
Olivia looked toward Nathan, who sat up with Ethan’s help.
Under the glow of the lamp, his handsome face appeared even paler. He looked incredibly frail, as if he’d stop breathing in the blink of an eye
She clenched her fists tightly, forcefully suppressing the sorrow welling up from the depths of her heart.
Nathan–lifted his eyelids, his expression neutral. His deep gaze fell upon her delicate face, and a fleeting hint of ambiguous emotion flashed past his eyes.
Ethan cast a glance at Olivia, sighing inwardly.
As long as he refrained from telling her, she would never discover the root cause of Nathan’s illness.
When Nathan was carrying out a mission back then, everything went well. The plan was foolproof, and nothing was supposed to go wrong. However, he suddenly received news about her at the most crucial moment of the mission.
Distracted for a moment, he gave his enemy an opportunity to attack, which resulted in him getting hurt.
Yet, no one anticipated the severe repercussions that would follow. He suffered from an angina episode almost every month. And this time, she happened to see it.
“Ethan, leave, Nathan suddenly commanded.
“Yes, sir.” Ethan dared not disobey.
As he passed by Olivia, he paused briefly, whispering, “Please take care of Mr. Carter.”
Olivia glanced at Ethan, frowning slightly.
As soon as Ethan left, pin–drop silence ensued in the room
Nathan was leaning against the headboard of the bed, his eyes cast downward. The lamp’s light showered on him, making hirn look surprisingly lonely and dispirited,
Olivia bit her lip, hesitated for a moment, then finally broke the silence. “You..”
Suddenly, she found herself at a loss for words.
It was as if there was an invisible wall between the two of them, preventing them from getting any closer to each other.
A pang of sorrow welled up within her. Lowering her head, she let out a self–mocking laugh

He chuckled softly, his usually sharp eyes softening with a hint of tenderness. “It’s just an old ailment. It il pass
In truth, he had woken up much earlier, specifically when the doctor was giving him an injection.
When he heard her voice, he was shocked, surprised to know she was there.
She must be worried about me, right?
As this thought flashed through his mind, a touch of melancholy welled up in his heart.
Her concern had surprisingly become a luxury for him.
Had it not been for the incident five years ago, she might still be by his side now, meticulously taking care of him.

Olivia didn’t know what to feel when she saw him smile despite his condition because based on her understanding of him, he had a tendency to put on a strong front.
She took a deep breath and pursed her lips. “Is that so? Seems like this old ailment of yours is quite severe.”
So severe that his life could be endangered at any moment.
Nathan detected the mockery in her voice and quietly observed her for a while before saying. “It’s getting late. You should head back and rest. You’re going back to Emberfall tomorrow, right?”
Olivia felt irritated.
He’s clearly changing the subject to brush me off! The fact that he suddenly woke up to prevent Ethan from telling me the truth goes to show he’s hiding something from me.
