Chapter 231 For Him
Nathan did fall asleep, albeit for a short while.
In less than an hour, he woke up again.
His chest started aching again, waves of numbing pain overwhelming him.
But this time, it was bearable.
As soon as he opened his eyes, he saw Olivia sleeping on the couch.
She was deeply asleep, her usual indifference and aloofness replaced by relaxation. At that moment, she looked like a carefree child.
A tender look appeared in his gaze. The sight of her seemed to soothe the pain in his chest, and time no longer stretched out endlessly.
The sky outside gradually brightened, and the morning sunrays streamed into the room. Olivia’s eyelashes quivered slightly before she slowly opened her eyes.
She found herself in an unfamiliar setting and was confused.
The next moment, her mind cleared. She straightened up, turning to look in the direction of the bed.
After an agonizing night, Nathan finally made it to dawn. Although the pain in his chest had subsided, he felt so weak, as if he had just recovered from a severe illness. His complexion was devoid of any color.
Olivia felt sorry for him.
I thought he said it wouldn’t happen again. Why does he look paler with dark circles under his eyes? He probably didn’t get much sleep.
“I’m fine now.” Nathan sat up, looking at her tenderly. “Sorry for troubling you.”
Olivia wanted to say something that would make him feel better, but what came out of her mouth was, “Don’t get it wrong. I’m doing this for Liam.”
“I know” Nathan chuckled self–deprecatingly. “I wouldn’t dare to get it wrong.”
Something felt off about what he said, but Olivia couldn’t put a finger on it.
Before she could think further, the room’s door was pushed open from the outside.
It was Ethan and Liam.
“Daddy!”
Liam rushed toward Nathan. The sight of Nathan’s pale face instantly brought tears to the boy’s eyes.
Thinking Nathan looked haggard because of the horse riding injury, he burst into tears.
Rushing over, Olivia held him tightly, her heart aching as she reassured him, “Your daddy’s fine. Don’t cry.”
What the feared most still happened.
“Mommy Daddy’s hurt because of me…” Liam sobbed, heartbroken.
“Liam, it’s not like that. Daddy isn’t.” Olivia wiped the boy’s tears, trying to explain, but for a moment, she didn’t know how
- to.

Nathan chuckled and ruffled the child’s hair. “Of course. Daddy has never lied to ope
“Mommy, is what Daddy said true?” The boy turned to seek confirmation from Olivia.
Olivia nodded. “It’s true.”
Finished
Upon receiving the affirmative response, Liam quickly wiped the tears from the corner of his eyes and put on a serious face, looking mature beyond his years. “Daddy, no matter how busy you are with work, you must remember to rest.”
“Got it.” Nathan pinched the boy’s cheek, then turned to look at Olivia. “You should go freshen up. We’ll have breakfast together later.”
Olivia didn’t refuse and simply got up to leave.
After having breakfast, Nathan mentioned, “We’ll head back to Emberfall later.”
Hearing this, Olivia frowned. “Are you really okay?”
He still appeared rather weak, and it would be troublesome if any unexpected incidents occurred during their journey back home.
“Yeah, I’m okay. The pain usually lasts just for one night.” Nathan knew his condition more than anyone.
Since he had made up his mind, Olivia didn’t say anything further.
Going back to Emberfall’s a good idea, too. I could pay a visit to Harry and perhaps try to make him change his mind.
An hour later, they all boarded the plane, flying back to Emberfall.
Throughout the entire journey, Nathan rested with his eyes closed, not uttering a single word.
Liam was well–behaved and didn’t disturb him.
The plane made a smooth landing at Emberfall Airport. Benjamin who had been waiting outside, spotted Olivia when they exited the airport. He immediately approached her, taking the suitcase from her hands.
In the meantime, it was surprisingly Emma who came to pick Nathan up.
Olivia’s expression changed ever so slightly, and she averted her gaze, disregarding the inexplicable feeling welling up within
her.
“Nate, you’re finally back.” Emma’s jealousy boiled over when she saw Nathan exiting the airport with Olivia.
Nonetheless, she held herself back and forced a gentle smile.
Nathan frowned, his tone filled with displeasure as he asked, “Why are you here?”
