Chapter 239 She Is Nothing More Than An Outsider
Nathan stayed in the hospital for three days, and finally, his condition started to improve, with no further attacks.
“The recovery’s going well,” Harry closed the medical report, glancing up at Nathan, who was lying on the hospital bed
After three days of recuperation, color had returned to his face, and overall, he seemed to be in pretty good spirits.
“Thank you.” Nathan said
His demeanor and tone were both subdued, but the gratitude in his words was still discernible.
With a smile tugging at his lips, Harry said, “Don’t be a stranger. You’ve paid for the treatment too, haven’t you?”
In Harry’s perspective, this was merely a transaction between the two parties even though he had answered Olivia’s call for help
Nathan just chuckled, not saying anything else.
“You’re cleared to leave the hospital,” Harry said. “However, you’ll need to come back for treatment once a week, and it’s essential that you take a medicinal bath every night. Also, remember to take your medication on time
“Dr. Anderson, you can count on it. I will remember it well an
mind Mr. Carter,” Ethan interjected.
Harry cast him a glance, then continued, “I must insist on you sticking to it. Otherwise, the follow–up treatment won’t yield the desired results.”
Nathan nodded. “Alright.”
Upon learning that Nathan had been discharged from the hospital, Emily and Emma rushed to Beverly Hills at once.
As she had not seen him for several days, Emily’s eyes immediately welled up with tears the moment she did. “Nate,” she asked, “are you okay?”
“Nate, you have no idea how worried Mrs. Carter and I were about you. Thank goodness you’re alright.” Emma was on the brink of tears, showing just how concerned she was for him.
With an impassive glance, Nathan looked at them, his voice devoid of any emotion as he said, “I’m fine.”
“You’ve lost so much weight.” Emily stepped forward, reaching out to touch his face, but he avoided her touch.
Emily thought he was still upset about what she had said that night. As he was her son still, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of guilt and self–reproach.
“Nate, about that night…”
Before she could finish her sentence, Nathan coldly interrupted, “Mom, let’s not bring it up anymore.”
Emily let out a sigh. “Alright, I’ll drop it.”
Emma glanced at Emily, then at Nathan, sensing that something had definitely transpired between the two of them.
She thuttered her eyes, her voice soft and sweet. “Nate, let me stay and take care of you.”
He was ill now, and she believed that if she could take care of him, he would appreciate her more.
“That’s not necessary,” Nathan immediately declined. “It’s not quite appropriate for an outsider to be taking care of me here, is it, Ms. Patel

Emma was eager to say something, but Nathan raised his hand, indicating that he had heard enough.
“Ms. Patel, I believe I’ve made myself quite clear,” he said. “I trust you’re a smart woman.”
The underlying message was for her to face the reality.

Emma’s eyes reddened, on the verge of tears. “Nate, weren’t we… weren’t we close to getting engaged? And you didn’t refuse back then either. Can we just pretend that the cancellation of our engagement never happened, please?”
I have already lowered myself. Surely he won’t deny me even a shred of dignity, will he?
At that moment, Emily interjected, “Indeed, Nate, what nonsense are you spouting? How could Emma be considered an outsider? She’s been so worried about you these past few days in the hospital that she can’t even sleep. Let her take care of you.”
Their words triggered a hint of impatience to flash across Nathan’s face. He snapped, “I’ve said it before, I don’t need it!”
His face was so gloomy that it was frightening.
