After leaving the private room, Lucas couldn’t hold back any longer and burst into laughter.
“Olivia, it was so satisfying to hear what you said just now!” Lucas wiped away the tears of laughter from his eyes before continuing, “Did you see the look on Emma’s face?”
He had initially thought she would just let things be, yet to his surprise, she turned the tables decisively before she left.
Just thinking about it filled him with delight.
In contrast, Olivia was calm, not nearly as worked up as he was.
As for the time she spent working as a housekeeper of the Carter family, she didn’t consider it as something to be ashamed

“If it’s true…” Lucas lifted his hand to stroke his chin, turning his head to look at her. His tone was half playful, half serious as he asked, “Could it be because of you?”
Upon hearing this, Olivia laughed and turned to look at him. “Do you think that’s possible?”
“It’s hard to say,” Lucas said with a smirk. Nathan was a deep thinker; hardly anyone could truly understand what was on his mind.
“You’re really overthinking this.” Olivia’s mouth curled up in a teasing smile. “It’s clear that it’s not because of me. I do know my place, you know.”
After she finished speaking, she felt an inexplicable sense of dejection.
She hastily took a deep breath, suppressing the sensation and quietly cautioning herself against indulging in such fantasies.
Lucas nodded in agreement, saying. That’s true.”
He was well aware of how ruthlessly Nathan treated her.
So it was implausible to think that Nathan would call off his engagement on her account.

Nathan hadn’t expected to encounter her there. He was taken aback at first, then, upon seeing Lucas affectionate gestures, his eyes narrowed in a hostile manner.
When Olivia caught his gaze, a jolt struck her heart, and she instinctively pulled away from Lucas‘ hand.
Lucas‘ brow furrowed as he glanced at her. Seeing her somewhat awkward expression, he could guess something was amiss and thus, withdrew his hand.
“Mr. Carter, what a coincidence!” he greeted Nathan with a smile.
Unknown to him, his smile felt unbearably jarring to the latter,
“Why are you here?” Nathan’s gaze, devoid of emotion, fell upon Olivia.
Olivia kept her head down, not looking at him or responding.
Lucas, on the other hand, let out a chuckle before replying, “What else can it be? We’re obviously here to socialize.”
