Nathan’s face darkened as soon as he heard the news. He instinctively pulled away from Emma’s arm, breaking contact.
Emma’s smile faltered. She worried Nathan might announce their broken engagement in front of everyone. Her gaze quickly darted to Olivia standing right in front of her.
Calm and collected, Olivia took a casual sip of her red wine, utterly unfazed by the public display of affection between Emma and Nathan.
Emma’s eyes narrowed with a flash of anger. But she kept her voice soft. “Hey, Olivia! I barely recognized you in that stunning outfit! You’ve changed so much! The last time we met, it was so rushed we didn’t get a chance to catch up. What a surprise to see you here!”
Olivia quirked an eyebrow at Emma’s words. A silent thought flashed through her mind, “This woman, after five years, still wears the same mask in front of others!‘
She offered a glacial smile and replied, “Oh, do we?”
Surprised by the revelation, Eric interjected, “Wait, you two know each other?”
Emma grinned, a mischievous glint in her eye. “Yeah, we go way back. But hey, Ollie, here’s a big fancy deal now, right? Too important to remember old times!”
She turned to Olivia. “Even if you’re not interested in catching up with me, Ollie, how about Nate? Your Master from back in the day, remember? Come on, you can’t pretend you don’t remember him. And let’s not forget, the Carters were pretty good to you for a long time…”
-Her smile faltered slightly as she finished her sentence, her tone shifting to a more serious note.
Eric’s brow furrowed at Emma’s seemingly innocent comment about Olivia. It felt like a deliberate attack.
The guests, previously engaged in polite conversations, perked up at Emma’s mention of the past. Whispers and speculation rippled through the room.
“What could Ms. Patel possibly mean by that? Is she seriously suggesting that Ms. Monroe once worked as a servant for Mr. Carter at Carter Manor? What’s the hidden story here?”
“Is she insinuating that Olivia used to serve the Carter family?
“That’s ridiculous! Look at Olivia – she’s so elegant and runs a prestigious company. Her background must be impeccable. How could she have ever been a servant?”
“But she’s Mr. Carter’s fiancée. Why would she invent such a thing?“.
The party was packed with big shots, some acting like they owned the place.
Their interest in Olivia stemmed solely from her position as the General Manager of GN. So, when they heard that she used to clean houses for a living, a wave of discomfort rippled through the crowd. It was as if their own prestige had somehow been tarnished by association.
Suddenly, they started giving her dirty looks, like she had done something wrong.

Olivia, composed and collected, replied succinctly, “Clearly.”
“You’re taking this surprisingly well,” Lucas remarked, surprised.
Olivia met his gaze. “It’s true, so why get upset? If I let this get to me, wouldn’t I be giving her exactly what
she wants?”
Lucas agreed with her logic.
However, the timing of this revelation couldn’t be worse. It threatened to jeopardize Olivia’s future plans.
Just then, a voice cut through the murmurs, directing a question at Nathan. “Mr. Carter, is it true? What Ms. Patel said… was Ms. Monroe once a servant in your family?”
All eyes turned to Nathan.
Olivia, too, shifted her gaze towards him.
