Of course, Nathan was fuming! But the constant questions from the crowd were even more annoying.
Nathan’s voice turned cold, sending shivers down everyone’s spine. “There have been a bunch of servants at Carter Manor, maybe even some Monroes. But those people just keep their heads down and do what they’re told. I haven’t met any amazing women like Ms. Monroe, not even once! And honestly, if we had someone of her caliber working for us, Carter Group would be way ahead of the game!”
Nathan’s words hit Emma and Olivia like a ton of bricks. He flat–out denied Olivia being a servant! Nobody saw that coming, not even Emma. The crowd buzzed with confusion. If Olivia wasn’t a servant, why did Emma say that?
After all, Emma was a big shot at her company, and being accused of lying in public wasn’t a good look.
Lucas, ever the smooth talker, jumped in. “so because you’re marrying into money, you think everyone else is beneath you? Talk about a bad read on people! Olivia is obviously talented and elegant. There’s no way she’s a maid! But even if she was, becoming a general manager based on her own skills? Now that’s a powerful comeback!”
Lucas continued his scathing attack. “Think about it, Ms. Patel. How many people can charm the boss of a giant company like Horizon Ventures? Can you? Can most people? Not a chance!”
Lucas’s pointed remarks not only slammed Emma but also praised Olivia. He also dropped a veiled hint about Olivia’s past. Even if she started as a maid, her status far exceeds yours, Emma!
What qualifications do you have to look down on her?
Some guests at the party saw Emma’s fake smiles right through. They didn’t like her, but they hid their dislike with polite faces.
Olivia might have been young, but everyone knew she was a genius businesswoman. It didn’t matter that she used to be a maid at the Carters‘ now; she was the CEO running the whole show at Horizon Ventures.
Emma turned pale when Nathan publicly supported Olivia. Why would he risk his reputation for a woman with such a simple background? It made no sense.
“Five years of dedication, and I’m still no match for an ex–maid?” Emma fumed silently, her face twisted in anger and frustration.
Despite her anger, she plastered on a fake smile. “Mr. Martinez is right. I apologize if I mistook you for someone else. Sorry for the confusion.”
“No worries, I hope this doesn’t happen again,”
