Liam replied truthfully, “And Uncle Ben, Uncle Lucas, and Uncle King.”
Nathan’s expression darkened upon hearing the names of the three individuals.
Before he could inquire further, Liam asked sheepishly, “Daddy, who are you dining with?”
“With a client.”
Nathan wanted to avoid mentioning the Patel’s.
“Oh, I see.”
Liam didn’t press for more information but instead gazed at Nathan with bright eyes before hesitantly looking toward the door.
Since Mommy couldn’t come in, could he hug Daddy instead?
Liam quietly approached Nathan and reached for his shoulder with his tiny hand. He wrapped his arms around Nathan’s neck, nuzzled his face affectionately against Nathan’s, and softly said, “I missed you a lot today.”
He pouted and added, “I thought I would see you at the hospital today, but you didn’t come.”
Nathan’s heart softened, and a faint smile grazed at the corner of his mouth. He replied, “I missed you too, but I had something to attend to this morning, so I must leave now. Sorry.”
“It’s okay,” Liam replied understandingly.
Nathan helped him affectionately to wash his hands before leading him out.
As they stepped outside, they saw Olivia waiting.
Her expression was slightly serious as her gaze fixed deeply on him.
Liam immediately let go of Nathan’s hand, ran to his mother’s side, and exclaimed, “Mommy, I’m fine now! I just… ran into… Daddy inside.”
Olivia was also surprised to see Nathan there and stammered, “You… what are you doing here?”
Nathan’s eyes grew colder, and they asked, “Are you allowed to dine here?”
