Upon locking eyes with them, Olivia experienced a brief moment of shock before cursing her luck and hastily averting her gaze, feigning ignorance.

The sting of Nathan’s recent rejection still lingered in their hearts.
Emma’s demeanor turned icy, resentment simmering in her gaze.
Emily, too, spotted Olivia, her disdain palpable.
Lily nursed a lingering grudge over her daughter’s rejection, her brows arching mockingly as she spoke, “Funny how Nathan’s demeanor changed upon his return, isn’t it? Seems he stumbled upon someone unexpected… Olivia certainly knows how to leave an impression!”
The jab was directed squarely at Emily.
Furious, Emily stormed toward Olivia, her usual air of condescension laced with contempt as she demanded, “Olivia, we need to talk!”
Olivia paused briefly, meeting Emily’s gaze with a cold stare. “There’s nothing to discuss between us, Mrs. Carter,” she retorted curtly, turning to depart.
Emily moved to intercept her, her voice frigid. “You may not have anything to say, but I do!”
Maintaining her composure, Olivia inquired coolly, “What’s on your mind?”
Emily pointed accusatorily and demanded, “What do you want in exchange for staying away from Nathan?”
Silent, Olivia’s gaze hardened, memories of her humiliating dismissal five years prior resurfacing.
Speaking with a sharp tone, Olivia retorted, “What? Are you negotiating with me, Mrs. Carter? I thought someone lik
you would only resort to direct action.”
Emily’s expression twisted with disdain as she continued, “Do you think I’m afraid to take action? I simply prefer not to dirty my hands! Olivia, are you deliberately ensnaring Nathan for money? How much do you want? I’ll pay servitude to us!”

At Emily’s audacious offer, Olivia’s visage hardened.

Sensing Emily’s frustration, Lily jabbed a finger at Olivia and demanded, “How dare you speak to your elders in such a manner, Olivia? Previously, the Carter family took you in regardless of past events. Although you are no longer part of their family now, how could you have such an attitude towards Mrs. Carter? Why return now when Nathan and Emma are on the verge of engagement? What are your intentions?”
