However, it was King who spoke first.
“Hello, I am King Hawthorne, the CEO of Horizon Ventures and Olivia’s superior,” King began with composed confidence.
He presented himself with composed dignity and a restrained demeanor, radiating an aura of nobility and pride. “Mr. Carter, your esteemed reputation precedes you. The Carter family’s exceptional standing in our country is well–recognized, and encountering you tonight is indeed a delightful surprise.”
Nathan’s eyes narrowed slightly as he responded softly, “Ah, Mr. Hawthorne, the pleasure is mine. I would have arrived earlier if I had known such an esteemed guest was present. Unfortunately, it seems I wasn’t informed…”
Pausing momentarily, there was a subtle implication in Nathan’s words, a hint of questioning. “Am I not considered important enough to be notified?”
“Of course not,” Mr. Rodriguez responded firmly.
Mr. Rodriguez’s demeanor shifted briefly before he regained his composure, offering a smile. “Mr. Carter, your modesty is admirable. If anyone deserves the title of VIP, it is you.”
Echoing Mr. Rodriguez’s sentiment, the other dignitaries humbly acknowledged Nathan’s significance. “Indeed, Mr. Carter, you are our true VIP.”
With unanimous agreement, Mr. Rodriguez poured himself a generous glass of wine. “Mr. Carter, if there have been any oversights tonight, please accept my apologies. Let us toast to your presence, and you may partake as you wish.”
Nathan maintained a polite expression as he addressed the situation, “This matter is not Mr. Rodriguez’s fault. It seems my staff failed to clarify…”
Then, he redirected his gaze towards King, “Why isn’t Mr. Hawthorne seated?”
“Despite the warm welcome and invitations to drink, we haven’t had the chance to sit down since our arrival…”
King’s eyes swept across the room with a commanding presence. “Our general manager, Ms. Monroe, has already shared a few drinks with Mr. Rodriguez while the rest of us remain standing…”
Mr. Rodriguez felt a tinge of embarrassment at King’s words, mustering a forced smile. “Well… M Hawthorne is visiting for the first time, and everyone is just overly enthusiastic. Ms. Monroe is incred remarkable; she drank on behalf of Mr. Hawthorne.”

Nathan’s attention shifted to Olivia, his raised eyebrows carrying a meaningful implication. “It seems Ms. Monroe can handle her liquor?”

Nathan’s gaze swept over the array of bottles on the table, his finger tracing their labels until it settled on a bottle of vodka. “How about this one?” he suggested, his tone carrying a hint of suggestion. “It’s a rare occasion to meet Mr. Hawthorne. Let’s indulge in something stronger. Soft drinks would only dilute the flavor of the alcohol.”
All eyes followed Nathan’s gesture as he singled out the vodka, a potent choice that promised a robust drinking experience.
King maintained his composure, offering no verbal response but silently assenting
Nathan exchanged a meaningful glance with Ethan, who promptly moved to pour the drinks.
Within moments, each person had a glass before them.
Nathan raised his glass first, prompting King to reach for his.
However, Olivia interjected, “King… perhaps you shouldn’t…”
Her concern was evident, but King brushed it aside with a reassuring smile. “It’s alright, I can handle it.”
With that, he raised the glass to his lips and swiftly drained its contents smoothly.
Olivia’s frown deepened, her worry for King’s well–being evident.
Considering his injuries and personal struggles, indulging in alcohol was unwise…
Meanwhile, Nathan observed the exchange with a cold gaze, his thoughts inscrutable.
“What’s this? Mr. Hawthorne can’t handle his drink?” Nathan’s voice cut through the air, icy and disdainful. “Look at how worried Ms. Monroe is. If you can’t manage, you don’t have to drink. I won’t force you…”
With deliberate care, he delicately set down the wine glass on the table, the gentle clink reverberating ominously in the tense atmosphere, sending a shiver down the spines of all those in attendance.
