Part of the truth
Scarlett’s POV:
I followed as Lucian carried Lily’s bleeding form into the emergency room. Dr. Kane was already there, his eyes widening at the sight of them.
“What happened?” he asked, quickly directing Lucian to place Lily on a gurney.
“She’s having complications,” Lucian said coldly. “Fix it.”
Dr. Kane shook his head as he examined Lily. “So careless, Miss Lily. I told you to avoid stress during this pregnancy.
Lucian’s head snapped up. “You know her?”
“Of course,” Dr. Kane said distractedly as he worked to stop the bleeding. “Luna Scarlett asked about her condition during her last visit here.”
The room grew very still. Through our bond, I felt Lucian’s growing tension.
“What exactly did Scarlett say?” Lucian’s voice was carefully controlled.
Dr. Kane didn’t look up from his work as he answered. She asked about Miss Lily’s pregnancy and her due date. She seemed very concerned about her welfare.”
I watched the color drain from Lucian’s face as Dr. Kane continued.
“Poor Luna Scarlett…” Dr. Kane’s voice softened. “She even said she envied Lily’s ability to have children. But right after those words, she vomited blood. Her heart condition worsened significantly that day.”
The medical equipment rattled as Lucian’s Alpha power filled the room. “She knew about the pregnancy?
his voice cracked.
“Yes,” Dr. Kane’s voice was heavy with sadness. “Whatever triggered her emotional distress that day caused her condition to deteriorate rapidly. Her body simply couldn’t handle it on top of the curse.”
Lucian stumbled back as if physically struck. Through our bond, I felt the exact moment the truth hit him that his betrayal had quite literally broken my heart.
“Get out,” he snarled at the nurses. “Everyone out except Dr. Kane.”
The medical staff scrambled to obey their Alpha’s command. Only Dr. Kane remained, still working to stabilize Lily.
Lucian pulled out his phone, his hands shaking. “Beta jack, come to the hospital immediately.”
When Jack arrived ten minutes later, Lily was stable but unconscious.
“Alpha?” Jack looked between Lucian and Lily’s still form. “What do you need?”
“Contact the United Council of Wolves hospital right now, immediately.” Lucian’s voice was ice. “Have them terminate the pregnancy.”

Jack’s eyes widened. “But Alpha, these are your heirs! The future of the pack-”
“She doesn’t deserve to bear my heirs!” Lucian roared “My mate died knowing about my betrayal. Her last days were spent in agony because of these cubs!”
“Think about this rationally,” Jack pleaded. “The pack needs an heir. Lily comes from a noble bloodline-
Lucian turned to him slowly, his eyes burning red. “You seem very concerned about Lily, Beta. Tell me, has she been warming your bed too?She opened her legs to you too? In the car? In the grass?”
“What? No, Alpha, I would never-”
“No?”
Lucian’s laugh was cruel. “Then why are you so eager to defend her? I remember how kind Scarlett was to you, how she trusted you. Yet the moment Lily arrived, you were singing her praises. Did she seduce you too? Is that why you want these cubs to live?”
Jack backed away, fear evident on his face. “Alpha, please=”
“Tell me, Beta,” Lucian’s voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. “Did she get on her knees for you like she did for me? Did she show you just how talented that mouth can be?”
“No!” Jack’s face was pale with terror. “I swear on my life, Alpha. I’ve never touched her!”
“Then do as you’re told,” Lucian growled. “Take her to the hospital and get rid of those cubs. I won’t have my betrayal of Scarlett living on in them.”
“Yes, Alpha,” Jack stammered. “I’ll arrange it immediately.”
I watched with dark satisfaction as Jack practically ran from the room. Through our bond, I felt Lucian’s emotions spiraling–guilt, rage, and a deep, consuming self–hatred.
He turned back to Dr. Kane, who had witnessed the entire exchange in silence.
“Tell me everything,” Lucian demanded. “Tell me exactly what happened when Scarlett found out about Lily’s pregnancy.”
Dr. Kane’s face was grave as he pulled out my medical file. “She came in that morning looking deathly pale. When I asked what was wrong, she just smiled that brave, beautiful smile she always wore. She asked about Lily’s pregnancy, wanting to know if everything was progressing well.”
Each word seemed to physically pain Lucian. Through our bond, I felt his heart breaking all over again.
“Then she collapsed,” Dr. Kane continued softly. “The curse took advantage of her emotional distress. She vomited blood for hours. When she recovered enough to speak, she asked about the due date.”
“Stop,” Lucian whispered, but Dr. Kane wasn’t finished.
“She smiled so sadly when I told her. ‘I wish I could have children too,‘ she said. Those were her last words before another attack hit.”
Lucian sank into a chair, his face buried in his hands. Why didn’t anyone tell me? Why did she suffer alone?”

“Because she loved you,” Dr. Kane said simply. “She chose your happiness over her own life, right until the end.‘
I drifted closer, watching as my mate fell apart under the weight of the truth. Each revelation was another knife in his heart, just as I’d intended when I arranged for these moments in my letters.
Dr. Kane gathered his supplies, preparing to leave. At the door, he paused. “Alpha? Those cubs are innocent. Don’t punish them for your mistakes.”
“My mistakes killed my mate,” Lucian’s voice was hollow. “These cubs are the proof of my betrayal. I won’t let them live while Scarlett’s death goes unpunished.”
Through our bond, I felt his resolve harden. He would destroy every trace of his betrayal, even if it meant losing his only chance at heirs.
I watched as he stared at Lily’s unconscious form, remembering my words in the letter about wanting him to be happy. But he’d chosen punishment over happiness, grief over healing.
Good. Let him suffer. Let him destroy his own future. It was exactly what I’d hoped for when I wrote those letters.
The sun was setting outside the hospital windows as Lucian waited for Jack to return.
His p
pain was just beginning, and I intended to savor every moment of it.
