Chapter 13
Leo’s parents looked around the apartment, their expressions unreadable as they took in the space
It was too clean. Too empty E
A stark contrast to the lavish sprawling Robbins estate, where every room was adomed with expensive fumiture and extravagant decor
His mother ran her fingers along the back of the couch, glancing at the bare shelves and lack of personal belongings.
“Why do you even want to stay here, Leo? This place feels. She hesitated. “Lifeless”
They did not know that this empty apartment had once been alive. That it had been warm.X
But that time, that warmth was gone, and all that remained was silence.
Leo did not respond to his mother’s question. Instead, he sat on the couch, staring at the place where my things used to be
His hands clenched as memories, he had buried beneath arrogance and indifference, started to resurface.
He pursued me first.
When I entered university, it was him who chased after me
It was strange at first–how similar we were in our thoughts, our interests, our personalities.
It had been easy to grow close to me
And maybe that was why he had chosen me so easily!!
Because back then, he had been devastated.
Sara–the girl he had convinced himself he wanted–had been dating someone else.X
And then I appeared
Someone so compatible with him. Someone who understood him. Someone who accepted him.
So, he pursued me more.
At first, I hesitated. But after months of his persistence, I had finally let him in
And in that first year, everything had been perfect.
Leo could still remember the feeling of holding my hand for the first time, the late–night drives, the playful arguments over what movie to watch.
He had genuinely thought about living with me after he graduated.
And when he did graduate, it had actually happened. We moved in together.
It should have been the beginning of our story. But instead, it had been the start of the end!!
A year after graduation, when Leo stepped into the business world and started managing his family’s company alongside his father, Sara came back
She had broken up with her boyfriend, and she had found him again.
At first, it was innocent
They were childhood friends. Their social circles were the same. It was natural that they spent time together.
But little by little, she became a constant in his life again. And without realizing it, he became distant from me
He knew I was jealous of Sara
He had seen it in my eyes, in the way my lips pressed together whenever Sara clung to him, in the way my voice turned slightly colder
whenever she was around
stay
But because I never truly pushed back, because I had always
is chosen to forgive him, Leo had convinced himself that I would always
He also let himself made so many promises, so that I could believe him many times.
Until one day. Leo had grabbed my hands, looked me in the eyes, and made a big promise
“I will propose to you at your graduation.”
His voice had been desperate, full of hope that I would give him another chance.
“At that time, let’s introduce ourselves to each other’s families. After that, we’ll prepare for the wedding, I only love you, Lucy
And I foolishly had believed him. I had held on to that promise, letting it fill me with purpose.X
I
I had thrown myself into my studies with everything I had, determined to make it all worth it.
I became the top student in my class, graduating faster than anyone else.
But to him, it had been nothing more than a temporary fix–words meant only to calm me down in the heat of the moment.
And just like that, he had forgotten about it
Leo’s fingers dug into his hair as the realization hit him like a punch to the gut.
“No wonder Lucy was so angry when I couldn’t come to her graduation.”
By then, his parents had already left, tired of trying to talk sense into him. But instead, it was Sara who came.X
She sat down next to him on the couch, sighed, and shifted closer. “Look, it’s just graduation.
Leo inhaled sharply, forcing himself to calm down.
He exhaled and muttered, “It’s okay. You didn’t know.”
Sara quickly changed the subject. “I actually came here to invite you to Vero’s party tonight. We’re both invited. Are you coming?”
Leo scoffed bitterly. “How could I go?” His voice was rough, frustration dripping from every word. “Lucy’s gone. I can’t…I
“You already asked your secretary to look for her, night?” Sara reminded him, rubbing his back gently. “So why not wait for the results at the club? You need a distraction. Vero’s been looking forward to seeing you.“!!
Leo gritted his teeth, but the guilt of ignoring his friends, of shutting down completely, weighed on him.
And so, despite everything, he gave in.
Even at the party, surrounded by flashing lights and loud music, his mind could not escape me
Drink after drink, nothing helped. The ache in his chest only grew stronger.
He grabbed his phone again, to see if his secretary had found any news about me. But nothing came
Leo cursed under his breath, running a hand through his hair in frustration.
Then, a voice beside him spoke up.
“Why not try emailing her?“”
Leo turned, blinking at one of his friends. “What?”
His friend shrugged. “Lucy’s probably sulking, right? If you want to make peace first, shell definitely come back if you say the right things.”
Leo hesitated.
Then, as if grasping at his last chance, he pulled out his phone and opened his email!
And he began to type.
